Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.
Mark 1:35 (NKJV)
At a certain age, my son used to wake up, kick the blanket away, and look for something to eat. As he grew older, his routine was almost the same, except that he would substitute food for television.
He Rose Up Before Daylight
After a while, we mutually came up with this daily routine: pray, read the Bible, spread the bed, take a bath, and then eat breakfast. Other daily chores would follow. Thankfully, this routine worked, but whenever I relax a little, my children revert to their default settings.
In a small way, my son and I were modeling Jesus. The Lord has a morning routine. He did not leave the day to chance. According to Mark, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35).
How to Start Your Day
The Son of God, knowing He was clothed in the human body with all its weaknesses, started His day by tapping into divine power. The first conversation he had every day was with his father. Long before anyone could interfere with His day and attempt to distract Him, Jesus asked His Father for wisdom, guidance, and strength.
How do you start your day? Learn from Jesus. Set aside a quiet, special time and place for communion with God, preferably early in the morning. Let God speak to you through His word and fill you with His Holy Spirit. You will rise from your knees rejuvenated, empowered, and ready to face the day. How you start your day determines the quality of that day. Start the day with God.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, inculcate in me the desire and practice of starting my day at Your feet.
