Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)
In a world where communication may be rude and negative and words are frequently used as weapons, the appeal for healthy discourse is a ray of hope and brightness. As His followers, we are expected to speak and act in a way that reflects the qualities of Christ.
Speak With Grace
According to Colossians 4:6, ” Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” When we speak with this grace, our words become a healing and uplifting force that builds people up instead of bringing them down.
However, speaking in a healthy way involves more than just being kind and politically acceptable. Our words should bring out the finest in every discourse, directing others toward the goodness and truth found in Christ, just as salt enhances the flavor of food.
How to Use Our Speech to Glorify God
Our words have tremendous influence on people around us as we work to cultivate wholesome communication in our lives. Let us uplift rather than demolish or depress, and direct listeners toward the grace and love of our Father in heaven.
Let us be careful with the words we use in our daily conversations and make the choice to emphasize them with elegance, truth, and love. And when we talk, let us use our speech to glorify God, putting our faith in His ability to empower us to be messengers of His grace and truth in all that we say.
Prayer
Almighty Father, come and live inside me so that my speech will always edify my hearers.
