How to Wait for God

Daily Devotional – Monday, June 9, 2025
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.
Psalms 62:5 (NKJV)

In all honesty, waiting is not easy. Whether it is waiting for an answer to prayer, a breakthrough, or simply some peace in the middle of chaos, we often want things to happen now. In our key text, however, David reminds himself and all believers to slow down and wait quietly for God.

Wait Silently for God

David is addressing himself, saying, “Hey, be still. Don’t panic. Don’t rush ahead. Just wait… and trust.” That is not passive waiting. That is faith in action.

David had every reason to be anxious. He had gone through betrayal, danger, and heartbreak, but he had learned something important. When everything else feels shaky, God is still steady. He had learned to expect good things not from his efforts or from people, but from God alone.

How to Wait for God

That is the gist of the key text. David says, “My expectation is from God alone.” It does not come from the job offer, the doctor’s report, or even from people with good intentions. He trusts the One who never fails.

It is not easy to quiet your soul. When you do, though, you stop striving and start trusting. You create space for God to speak peace into your heart and strength into your waiting. What are you waiting on right now? Are you trying to control the outcome, or are you letting God lead? How can you remind yourself today to rest in God’s timing?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I admit that I don’t like to wait. I want answers, solutions, and relief right away. Help me to wait quietly for You and to rest in the truth that You’re in control.
