For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 3:14 (NKJV)
Is there a mandatory posture for prayer? This question often crops up among Christians. Of course, we know that God is always ready to listen to us, irrespective of where we are. No time or place is inappropriate for a call to our Heavenly Father.
I Fall On My Knees Before God
In fact, you can pray while standing, sitting, in bed, walking, or bathing. When your heart is aligned with God, your connection to Him is instant. If you are in trouble or guilt is weighing down on you, call on the Lord wherever you are and expect Him to respond immediately.
There is, nevertheless, one posture that Bible characters seem to favour. Take, for example, Paul. While addressing the Christians in Ephesus, he stated, “For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 3:14).
I Fall to My Knees and Pray to the Father
From his Jewish heritage, Paul knows that kneeling signifies humility. A bent knee demonstrates submission to the power of God. It is an admission of the sovereignty of God over our lives and our total dependence on Him.
While kneeling does not buy us favours with God, it makes us reverent in the presence of God. In this posture, we feel our vulnerability, which inspires us to cling to the feet of Jesus, as it were. It is the posture that says to God, “I surrender all.”
I Bow My Knees Before My Father
When was the last time you knelt before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ? How often do you bend your knees before the Almighty? While He does not restrict you to any posture during prayer, bow your knees before the Father as often as possible.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I bow my knees to You today and acknowledge Your Lordship over my life.
