But thus says the LORD: “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away; And the prey of the terrible be delivered. For I will contend with him who contends with you, And I will save your children.”
Isaiah 49:25 (NKJV)
A pride of hungry lions is chasing a gazelle. The scared animal leaps into a swamp. Unfortunately, two crocodiles immediately move towards the prey.
Suddenly, as if on cue, a herd of hippos moves towards the gazelle and forms a protective ring. Minutes later, the hippos guide the gazelle to safety at the far end of the swamp, away from the lions, too.
I Will Contend With Him Who Contends With You
During Prophet Isaiah’s time, the children of Israel were like the gazelle. Surrounded by enemy nations, they could not escape destruction unless God intervened, as this promise reveals:
“But thus says the LORD: “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away and the prey of the terrible be delivered. For I will contend with him who contends with you. And I will save your children.” (Isaiah 49:25).
I Will Fight Your Enemies
The Israelites might have given up, seeing their enemies were very strong, but God was about to rescue them from dreaded adversaries. He was their defender. He would fight the enemies of His children.
Like the gazelle and the Israelites, we face ‘impossible situations’. Unemployment, financial challenges, broken families and marriages, drug addiction and captivity to various sins, often appear inescapable jails.
Praise God because He will fight our enemies. Nothing is impossible with Him. Submit yourself to Him. Invite Him to deal with your ‘impossible situations’. God is on your side.
Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, because You will defend me from my enemies and overwhelming situations.
