Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (NLT)
At the end of a normal working day, I am usually physically and emotionally exhausted. At times I feel like giving up, but knowing the responsibilities in my hands, I soldier on. Can you relate to this experience?
I have observed that burdens of the mind and heart are sometimes more exhausting than those of the body. Conflict within yourself, tough decisions you have to make, and life dilemmas, may drain you morally and spiritually.
Stress may also come in the form of a spiritual weakness you are struggling with. A strained relationship with a fellow believer or divisions within your church may strain you, too.
You might be anxious because a family member is facing challenges, yet you are unable to assist. How about dealing with overbearing and unkind employers and clients at work? The list cannot be exhausted!
It is during these moments that you need to remember and claim the beautiful promise of Matthew 11:28. Christ tells those with heavy burdens, “I will give you rest”. Yes, Jesus knows what you are going through and offers a working solution.
Jesus wants you to trust Him like a child trusts His parent. He longs to comfort you and assure you that all will be well if you remain in Him. He wants you to know He is in control. He urges you to place your burdens at the foot of the cross and let Him carry them for you.
What heavy physical, mental and spiritual burdens are you carrying today? Why exhaust yourself when Christ has offered to carry them for you?
Prayer
Father, I am turning my burdens to You now. I receive the rest You have promised. Amen!
