I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You

Daily Devotional – Friday, March 11, 2022

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

A South African court recently jailed a police officer for life because she killed five of her relatives and her boyfriend to benefit from their life insurance payouts.

Her approach was to convince her future victims to take a life cover and name her as the beneficiary. She would later organize their murders and claim the insurance payouts.

Such is the magnetism of money – many do not think twice about harming others in the quest for quick riches.

Never Will I Leave You; Never Will I Forsake You

In His teachings, Jesus cautioned against allowing money to crowd out God from our lives. In the epistle to the Hebrews, the writer emphasized this teaching by warning,

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5).

Two contrasts emerge from this admonition: the lover of money and contentment. The two are mutually exclusive. We cannot be covetous and content at the same time.

Be Content With What You Have

To ensure we do not fall into the trap of covetousness, our Merciful God has a beautiful promise in this verse.  He reassures you, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

You will have many financial hiccups along the way. Let them not lead you to forsake the Almighty God because He is with you through it all.

What would you rather have? Lots of money or more of God’s presence in your life?

Dear Father, once again, I give You first place in my life because You have made Your priority.

Indeed the presence of God is the best and greatest possession one can have, “they perceived that they had been with Jesus” these words were said to describe the disciples, how I wish the same can always be said of us.. we have been with God. He is omnipresent, we call Him Emmanuel-God with Us .
