For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more
Jeremiah 31:34 (NKJV)
A father sent his son to visit a friend who lived in a distant land. As was the custom, the hosts prepared their best secret meal – rice and housefly stew – for the visitor.
The next morning, the angry boy demanded to return home. The remorseful man asked the guest, “When you arrive home, what will you say you ate here?” The youth answered, “rice and housefly stew.”
The apologetic host pleaded with the visitor to stay an extra day. The next day, the family slaughtered the fattest goat, which the boy devoured with relish.
“Do you still want to go home?” The host asked.
“Yes,” the boy answered.
“What will say you ate here?”
“Goat meat, rice and housefly stew.”
What followed was a cycle. The boy would stay an extra day; eat a more delicious meal, but still mention he had eaten housefly stew.
He refused to forgive his hosts. No matter what they did to appease him, he would remind them of the only meal he had not liked.
Some people are like the boy in this story. Once you hurt them, they will keep reciting your past sins. Nothing good you do after that will earn their forgiveness. They will even hurt you and blackmail you using your past mistakes.
O that they would learn from our Heavenly Father who promises, “…I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more” (Jeremiah 31:34).
Be like God. When you forgive, erase the sins committed against you. Ask God to cleanse your heart from anger and bitterness. Remember others’ sins no more.
Father, teach me to forgive others and forget their sins.
When you fail to forgive people, you harbour and wallow in bitterness and anger. You also go against the character and will of God. Please comment so that others know what you feel about this devotional. Be blessed.
God help us to forgive others and forget as you do to us.
That’s the spirit. Harriet. God bless you
Father plant in me a forgiving heart and always let go of any sin commited agains me
Amen and Amen, Rose
Let learn to forgive and forget as our Heavenly Father does.
Well-said, George. Be blessed.
Amen, ,thanks for the reminder Elder
Hallelujah!
