Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways!”
Haggai 1:7 (NKJV)
To assess the progress of students, a tutor administers regular and random tests on his students. These tests help learners to gauge their learning progress. A student who identifies, acknowledges and works on his weaknesses will succeed.
In the Book of Haggai, the Master Teacher gave His students an important test. The main question was, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” (Haggai 1:4, NKJV).
God gave the Jews a tip to help them answer the question. “Consider your ways!” (Haggai 1:5, NKJV). He wanted them to reflect on their lives to realize the consequences of their neglect of His temple.
Have you thought about this?
“You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but do not have enough. You drink, but you are not filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” (Haggai 1:6, NKJV).
Think! Reflect! Search your hearts! You lead futile cyclical lives. You are no better than animals. Are you learning anything from your negative experiences? As long as you ignore me and neglect my work, this will be your fate!
Today, the same God calls upon us to consider our ways. Are we genuinely happy? Are we seeking for things that cannot satisfy? Alternatively, are we drinking from the well of eternal life? Is Jesus the centre of our lives?
As Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” If your life is worth living, examine it every day.
Holy Spirit, lead me to genuine and transformative self-examination.
Consider your ways! What does this command mean to you? Leave a comment please.

Unless we examine ourselves every time, we risk veering off the path of righteousness. Asante for the comment.
