I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.
Psalms 143:5 (NKJV)
When you look back at your past, are you motivated or discouraged to face life’s difficulties? According to Psalm 143, when we reflect on God’s dealing with us in the past, we gain hope and courage to face present challenges.
In verse 5, David says, “I remember the days of old…” Perhaps he is reflecting on how God delivered him from Goliath, wild animals and other enemies. Probably he is focusing on how God forgave him for adultery and murder.
David might be telling himself that the God who delivered and forgave him in the past can do it once again.
He continues, “I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.” If we find nothing to celebrate in our past, why not think about God’s mighty works? Nature, for example is full of lessons on God’s power and greatness.
Meditate on how God intervened in the lives of Biblical characters. Think of people you know who have experienced God’s transforming miracles. Be encouraged by the lyrics of a famous song:
It is no secret what God can do
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you
As you face life’s challenges today, the Creator of heaven and earth, your Sustainer, asks, “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).
If you choose to dig into your past today, let it be for important lessons that will encourage you to continue trusting fully in the Lord.
Lord Jesus, whenever I reflect on my past, help me find evidences of Your faithfulness.
I have seen God changing things and situation around for me ,for His own glory. His works for me is glorious.
So blessed
Juster, thanks for taking time to comment, once again. If you ever feel discouraged by life, look back at where God has carried you from, and you will get the courage and motivation to move on.
Keep it up for we need to continue believing in Jesus Christ our savior whom God gave us to be our way of life
Rogers, it’s a pleasure to read your comment. We serve a faithful and loving God. Pray for me that God may grant me the wisdom, grace and good health to continue writing these devotionals.
Sometimes we are caught in fear and depression and unable to pull ourselves out. At those times we can come to the Lord and like David express our true feelings. Then we will find help as we remember his works. Reach out to God in prayer.
Amen, Pastor. One person said, they further back we can see, the further ahead you can go.
Oh God of All Creation.May I reflect back with Gratitude.Amen
Gratitude attracts blessings. Thank you for your comment, Ronny.
