Daily Devotional – Tuesday, May 20, 2025
Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because of Your truth.
Psalms 115:1 (NKJV)
It feels good to be noticed, whether it is being praised at work, appreciated by friends, or simply acknowledged for something we have done well. Our key text, however, reminds us of something deeper: life isn’t about making our name outstanding; it’s about making God’s name known.
Not Unto Us
The psalmist repeats the phrase, “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us,” almost like a heartfelt confession. It is as if they are saying, “Lord, don’t let this be about me. Don’t let me steal the spotlight. All the credit, all the glory, all the praise is Yours.”
Why? Because of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness. It is not our achievements or goodness that make life meaningful. It is God’s character. His kindness carries us, and His promises never fail. Even when we fall short or don’t have it all together, God remains faithful and gracious.
It’s all About God
Therefore, when things go right, when doors open, when blessings show up, we must pause and do the needful. We don’t take the applause for ourselves. We pass it on to the One who deserves it.
Have you been trying to take credit for something that’s really God’s doing? How can you shift the focus away from yourself and shine it on God in your everyday life? Remember, it is not about impressing people but about honoring the God who never stops loving us.
Prayer
God, I know that everything good in my life is because of You. Help me to stay humble and always give You the credit. Let my life point people back to Your love, Your faithfulness, and Your grace.
