Then God said, “These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.”
Genesis 1:11 (NLT)
According to the University of Richmond, grey squirrels fail to retrieve 74% of the nuts they burry as food for winter. Squirrels are so creative that they even forget where they have hidden some of their food!
The forgetfulness of squirrels, though, is good for the environment. The acorns (nuts) they burry germinate and grow into great oak trees, thus regenerating forests.
The buried seeds are not dead. God created plants that produce fruit-bearing seed. He commanded, “These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” (Genesis 1:11). In other words, the life of a plant is in its seed.
A seed that is buried in the ground has potential. A seed that is lying in a rubbish dump has life in it. A seed that people step on has an oak in it. The seed that is swallowed whole by an animal has life in it. When the seed gets the right conditions, it will germinate.
We, too, have potential for growth. God created greatness in us. Your current conditions may be unfavourable. All you may have are unrealized dreams and hopelessness. Don’t despair. As you cooperate with God, you will gradually achieve your potential.
Do not judge people based on their current conditions. God has placed something special in each of them. Instead of finding fault with and condemning them for their weaknesses, help them discover and exploit their God-given potential.
It is just a matter of time before God remembers them.
Heavenly Father, help me see the value in others and myself despite current negative conditions.
