Jephthah’s Secret Weapon and Why You Need It

Daily Devotional – Monday, June 14, 2021

Your word I have hidden in my heart…

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)

Before Jephthah leads his people to war, he tries diplomacy. He asks the king of Ammon: “What do you have against me, that you have come to fight against me in my land?” Judges 11:12.

The Ammonite leader claims that Israel had stolen Ammonite land and should return it (verse 13).

What follows is a thorough narration of Jewish history, from Egypt to the Promised Land. Jephthah comes out as a keen Bible student. Right there is Jephthah’s secret weapon.

Now we understand why he dealt so decisively with rejection. We appreciate why he was able to identify and nurture the abilities of worthless rebels.

Jephthah could confidently say, “Your word I have hidden in my heart…” Psalm 119:11. Of him, we can say, “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2, NKJV).

Do you want to rise above a negative background and succeed? Do you desire to be an effective leader? Are you eager to become a hero of faith? Would you be happy if people regarded you as a role model?

Well, the secret is out. Meditate on the word of God. Spend time contemplating the character of God and His dealings with human beings in history. There is immense practical wisdom to propel you to success now and in the future.

How much time do you spend reading the Bible? Do you need to improve your Bible Study time and approach? Remember, by beholding God is His word, you will begin to change into His image (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Father, strengthen my will and give me motivation to read and meditate on your word.
