He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 (ESV)
Do these statements sound familiar? “I am waiting for the right time to start. I think the current circumstances are not favourable. I know so-and-so who tried it but failed.”
In Israel, knowing the direction of the wind was important when using broadcasting method to plant. However, there were times when the wind would be erratic. The overcautious farmer would not plant, waiting for the wind to normalize, which was not guaranteed.
In addition, farmers would harvest during the dry season. Sometimes, instead of clear skies, clouds would overspread the sky. The diligent farmer would continue harvesting. The indecisive one would hesitate, watching the clouds to see whether the sun would shine through.
The person who waits for the weather to be favourable before planting or harvesting will not succeed. There will never be a perfect time for you to do anything. Once you have decided to start a project, start with the resources at hand. The rest will become available as you press on.
If you have found the vital qualities in the person you have fallen in love with, take the next step. If your relationship is on the wrong path and God prompts you to take some remedial action, don’t hesitate. If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, do it today.
You cannot control the wind. Clouds are not under your command. What is in your hands is action. While you should take caution and calculated risks at times, unnecessary delays and indecisiveness will pull you back.
Even the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing Judas was about to betray Him, commanded the traitor, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” (John 13:27 – NIV). Today, commit yourself to start the projects you have been postponing. Stop procrastinating. Just do it!
