Leave Your Enemies to God

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, March 5, 2024
Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me. Fight against those who fight against me.
Psalms 35:1 (NKJV)

In my community, whenever a bully threatens or oppresses the weaker person, the latter remarks, “I leave you to God.” This statement is an admission that one does not have the ability to fight the wicked, hence the invocation of God’s name in the situation.

Fight Against My Adversaries

‘Leaving a person to God’ also means that the oppressed person has now enlisted God on his side of the battle. The confrontation is now not between two human beings but between the bully and God.

David lived at a different age from mine, but he, too, knew the importance of inviting God to fight for him. The psalmist pleaded with God, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me. Fight against those who fight against me.” (Psalms 35:1). He even asks God to arm Himself with a shield, a buckler, and a spear. (Verses 2-3).

Leave Your Enemies to God

Incidentally, Christianity is different from other religions, where professed believers fight and kill on behalf of God. Instead, we have a God who battles the enemy on our behalf. Whenever we face people who threaten our lives and reputations or circumstances that can sink us, we need to invite God to fight our enemies, and He will hear us.

Which impossibilities are you dealing with today? Have you lost all hope because your adversaries have the power and means to bring you down? Run and hide behind Jesus. Leave your enemies to God. No enemy is beyond Him. Stand still, and let God fight your enemies.

Prayer
Almighty God, I leave my enemies and negative circumstances to You. The battle is yours.
