I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected.
Habakkuk 2:1 (NKJV)
In Habakkuk 2:1, the prophet complains to God about the injustice and violence he observes around him. He then positions himself, waits, and stands watch, prepared to hear from God and act accordingly. This action has vital lessons for us.
Active Waiting and Patience
First, Habakkuk demonstrates active waiting by standing at his watch. Similarly, we must always be spiritually alert and prepared. This entails praying, reading the Bible, and remaining receptive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Second, patience and trust are necessary when waiting on God. Habakkuk decides to have faith that God will, irrespective of how long it will take. Believing in God entails having faith that He hears our petitions and will respond appropriately and punctually.
Third, Habakkuk waits with faith rather than uncertainty. It is our belief that God will speak to us through His Word, through events, or through a still, little voice in our hearts, when we pray and seek Him out.
Lessons on Waiting for the Lord from Habakkuk
Fourth, Habakkuk is prepared to reply to God’s message as well. He is ready to follow through on whatever God shows him. We should also be prepared and eager to follow it, even if it presents difficulties or necessitates major life adjustments.
Are you in a waiting season right now? Maybe you’re praying for a breakthrough, struggling with a challenging circumstance, or asking God for direction on a decision. Learn from Habakkuk, and wait patiently and actively.
Prayer
Dear God, teach me how to wait patiently and actively for You to act on my petitions.wa
