Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV)
The prophet Isaiah ministered to a rebellious nation. Despite God condemning His people’s sins, He also gave messages of hope and restoration. One of His most powerful messages of hope is in Isaiah 43:18-19.
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old” (v. 18). When people undergo immense suffering, it is natural for them to dwell on the pain. God urged His people to forget the past.
It is futile to spend your precious thoughts, time and energy worrying about a past you cannot change. Instead, accept God’s advice and reassuring promise in verse 19, “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?”
Why concentrate on an unhappy past when God has prepared a brand new life for you? Why focus on the closed door when God is opening a new one?
God gives another reassuring promise. “I will even make a road in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19). Only God can perform such a miracle. Only He can create something new where there was nothing before.
Here is another precious promise, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
If there is something you are holding on from your past, and which is hindering your relationship with God and others? Surrender your past to Jesus and accept the change He offers.
Lord Jesus, I release my negative past to You and embrace the new reality You are offering to me.
What should we do with the past? Let other readers know through your comment. Blessings.
My humble Prayer this evening Munene…Lets also remember,he says,Isa.40:31..Those who hope in the Lord will renew their Strength…🙏
Amen, Ronny. Isaiah is the prophet of hope and Good News.
Memories of our worst past haunt so much, making us feel guilty of our existence. But our devotional today challenges us to put them behind and focus on the future with a positive view. May God strengthen us not looking to the past that may not build our bond with him.
Well said, frank. Indeed, we have a God who gives us another chance to start anew.
Indeed sometimes the past has been a hindrance to progress,..past failures, guilt from past sins e.t.c but today’s word points us to the God of new beginnings, we serve a God of restoration..you see ,we cannot change our pasts, what’s done is done but the good news is we can give our past to Jesus and He can make us new.
Very true, Charles. When we turn our lives to God, He gives us a new lease of life. Be blessed.
