…that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
1 Thessalonians 2:12 (NKJV)
There is no higher calling than to become a child of God. What could be more important than to aspire to bear the character of the Creator of the universe? Both God and the world expect us to live worthy of God and His kingdom.
Setting an Example in Godliness
Paul and his missionary companions understood this principle well and endevaoured to exemplify the character of God wherever they went. The early bearers of the gospel appreciated the power of example in winning souls and inculcating godliness among believers.
Thus, Paul confidently told the Christians in Thessalonica, “You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe, as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.” (1 Thessalonians 2:10-12).
The Highest Calling
The apostle urged the Thessalonians to imitate the conduct of the missionary team. God expects Christians to be devout, just and blameless. Only when we demonstrate the attitude and character of Christ will we have the moral authority to urge others to walk worthy of God who calls all of us to His kingdom and glory.
Our highest endeavour should be to prove we belong to God by obeying Him in all aspects. Incidentally, it is not only God who expects us to live differently from the world. Whenever we inform people, directly or indirectly, that we are followers of Jesus, they expect us to behave as Jesus did.
Live Worthy of God
Conduct a sincere self-examination to establish whether you are living worthy of the God. Can those who interact with and know you attest that you are a genuine Christian in public and private spheres? Which aspects of your life have you not surrendered fully to God for you to become a fitting representation of His character?
Prayer
Dear God, teach me how to walk worthy of You and Your kingdom.
