Maintain Good Works

Daily Devotional – Sunday, August 13, 2023
This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.
Titus 3:8 (NKJV)

It is a fallacy to believe that one can be a Christian and continue living by the dictates of the world. Contemporary Christianity has gradually deviated from the teachings of Christ and the early church to become a lifeless profession that disregards benevolence, and Christians do not maintain good works.

Devoted to Charity

Christ warned His disciples against a fruitless life, implying that the inward work of the Holy Spirit must manifest itself through a change in conduct. The world would know the disciples of Jesus, not through mere words, but through acts of kindness. It was impossible for one to meet Jesus and remain unchanged.

The Apostle Paul emphasized Christ’s message when he urged Titus: “This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.” (Titus 3:8). What a powerful message!

Engage in Good Deeds

Paul instructed the younger Gospel minister, Titus, to repeat the message as often as possible to Christians. As long as one believes in God, he must devote himself to good works. True Christianity spurs believers to act with compassion and mercy towards those in need. That way, we become instruments of God for the good of humanity.

The world expects to see Jesus in us through our generosity. Many people will be convinced of the existence and goodness of the God we serve when they witness a practical demonstration in our lives. When we engage in good works and touch the tangible needs of others, they are likely to follow the God we follow.

Maintain Good Works

How can you maintain good works on a continuous basis in your community? How effective would your soul-winning efforts be if you transitioned from mere sermonizing to meeting the practical day-to-day needs of people around you? Is there a person you can extend a helping hand to today?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, reveal to me ways through which I can maintain good works, become a blessing to humanity, and win souls for Your kingdom.
