The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
You notice a needy person, feel a nudge to help him, but convince yourself someone else will stop. Later you find out that person was a close friend of someone you deeply respect. Suddenly the missed opportunity feels heavier. Jesus teaches that how we treat vulnerable people is far more personal than we often realize.
Faith that Shows Up
As believers, we often emphasize prayer, and rightly so. Prayer keeps our hearts aligned with God and sustains our spiritual lives. We are called to intercede for both believers and those who do not yet know Christ. Still, Jesus invites us to look beyond prayer alone.
Studying God’s Word nourishes faith and shapes our character. Knowing verses and recalling passages can be encouraging and useful, yet knowledge by itself is not the final measure of faithfulness.
Meeting Jesus in Unexpected Places
Sharing the gospel is equally essential. The call to make disciples compels us to speak about Christ with courage and love. Experiencing God’s grace should naturally move us to invite others into that same hope, but Jesus presses even further.
In Matthew 25, Jesus explains that the final judgment centers on how faith was expressed through service. He separates the sheep from the goats based on their response to human need. Caring for the hungry, the sick, the stranger, and the imprisoned is counted as service to Christ Himself.
In the end, spiritual practices matter, but what matters most to Jesus is love put into action. Our faith becomes real when it meets human need with compassion.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, show me how to serve others with the same love You have shown me.
