More About Jesus
Eliza Edmunds Hewitt’s hymn, More About Jesus, is one of my all-time favourites. It expresses the composer’s longing to be in close communion with Jesus. How amazing is it to know that Eliza was for most of her life incapacitated by as spinal disorder?
The inspiration behind the powerful lyrics of the song was the statement by Paul in Philippians 3:10, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…” (Philippians 3:10).
Deepening Your Relationship With God
This man Paul wrote half the New Testament. Even on that account, he must have known Jesus. How then would Paul desire to know Jesus, especially to participate in the sufferings, death and resurrection of the Lord?
Paul had realized that the more he knew Jesus, the more the attraction deepened. The more Paul recognized his helplessness as a sinner, the more he was attracted to the pure, righteous life of Jesus.
More About Jesus Let Me Learn
Like Eliza and Paul, do you long to know Jesus more? What steps are you taking to enrich your walk with Jesus?
Today, meditate on the second stanza of More About Jesus:
More about Jesus let me learn
More of His Holy will discern
Spirit of God, my teacher be
Showing the things of Christ to me
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I want to know you more. Be my Teacher.
