So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…
Joel 2:25 (NKJV)
The Prophet Joel lived among people who had rebelled against God consistently. True to His promise in 2 Chronicles 7:13, God allowed swarms of locusts to invade the land and consume all crops.
Joel beautifully describes the harmful insects as, “The swarming locusts, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, and the chewing locus”t (Joel 2:25). God also calls them “My great army which I sent among you.” Locusts were instruments of God’s anger against His people.
Now comes the good news. God promised that if His children turn to him, “with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning” (Joel 2:12), He would withdraw His army of locusts. The Almighty offered His people a second chance because He is merciful and does not hold anger forever.
There is even better news. God promises, “I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…” (Verse 25). What a wonderful God we serve. He gives us more than a second chance. He restores what sin took away from us. He reverses the consequences of sin.
Today, you are assured that our God is ready to forgive and restore you if you turn to Him in genuine repentance. If the locusts took away your happiness, God will give you more than happiness. Like Job of old, our Father will restore not only what you lost, but He will add you many more blessings.
Return to God and He will return to you. Welcome to the kingdom of the God who gives you more than a second chance.
Father, thank you for pardoning me and giving me with more than a second chance.
