Moving Beyond Second-hand Faith

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
John 17:3 (NKJV)

In John 4, the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus at the well completely changed her life. Overwhelmed with excitement, she rushed back to her village, Sychar, telling everyone, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did!” Many believed her story, but they didn’t stop there. They went to hear Jesus themselves.

Hearing His Voice Personally

After listening to Him, they said, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us. We’ve heard Him with our own ears, and we know He really is the Savior of the world” (John 4:39–42). Their response shows the shift from knowing about Jesus through someone else’s testimony to personally experiencing Him.

In the same way, it is easy for us to rely on what others say about God without taking the step to know Him ourselves. Jesus calls each of us into a close and personal relationship.

Moving Beyond Second-hand Faith

Eternal life does not start after death. It begins the moment we begin a genuine relationship with God through Jesus. To know Him means talking with Him honestly in prayer, reading His Word to hear His voice, and letting His love influence the way we live and the choices we make.

Today, don’t settle for secondhand faith. Seek Him personally and walk closely with Him. Eternal life begins right now, as you truly know Jesus.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself through Jesus. Help me go beyond hearing about You to truly experiencing Your love. Draw me closer, speak to my heart, and guide my steps each day.
