And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.
Psalms 39:7 (NKJV)
Today, I learnt what it means to put my hope in God. I finally visited a coveted destination, having missed the opportunity to do so a week ago. Unfortunately, the day did not end well. I lost a valuable possession.
I forgot the joys of the day and concentrated on my loss. As I reminisced on the implications of losing my precious gadget, despair sunk in. My friends empathized but that did not help.
What Do I Wait For?
I tried to pray silently but I could not muster the words. Finally, I told the Lord something like this: “I have a lot to tell You but I don’t know how to say it. Whatever happened did not take you by surprise. I leave everything to you. Take control.”
From that moment, I experienced indescribable peace. Later, when I arrived home, I somehow found myself reading the thirty-ninth psalms. Verse 7 spoke to my situation and to my heart: “And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.”
My Hope is in You
I now can attest that when we surrender to God during our desperation, He has a way of raising our hope and increasing our faith. When it is only God we are waiting for, He knows how to speak into our situations.
While He may not solve our problems immediately or in the way we want Him to, God will never disappoint those whose hope is in Him. There is immense power is submitting to God. Whenever you find yourself overwhelmed and desperate, ask God to fill you with hope as you wait for Him to act.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in my moments of despair, always remind me that You are my hope.
