Never Give Up!

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, January 25, 2022

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV)

I love creatives. Sculptors, painters, artists, musicians and their ilk amaze me. With their tools of trade and some materials, they bring to life, as it were, ideas that only existed in their minds.

The best masterpieces take time and great effort to produce. A lot of work is done behind the scenes. Creatives have to rework some earlier artifacts and abandon others. After a long, often painful, process, the world marvels at the finished product.

Best Human Showpiece an Imitation of God’s Creation

That said, there is no human work of art that we can compare to the artistic work of God in nature. In fact, the best human showpiece is an imitation of God’s creation. Artists use what God has created as raw material and source of ideas.

How, then, did God create so that human beings model their best works on His? The Bible has an interesting answer. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3).

He Calls Non-Existent Things as Though Existed

Unlike the best human creatives, who need raw materials and ideas from God to bring their thoughts into life, God spoke the world into being. It is inconceivable to the human mind how everything we see can come out of the invisible.

The author of Hebrews rightly says that we can only understand this extraordinary occurrence by faith. Like Abraham, we must believe in “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” (Romans 4:17).

Walk By Faith, Not By Sight

It is that same faith that we need when we are about to lose hope. When, humanly speaking, all is lost; we must have faith that God is able to do the impossible for us. We must believe that He will make a way where there seems to be no way.

When bills pile and the finances dry up; when the doctor’s prognosis spells doom; when you lose your job or your business collapses, that is when you need to “walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Able to do Exceedingly Abundantly

We serve the same God who parted the Red Sea to make a highway where there was none. He it is who provided manna in the desert and multiplied bread and fish for the multitudes to eat. The Jesus who healed the sick and raised the dead is the same we serve today.

Because He created the visible world from the invisible, He “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20).

With God all Things are Possible

Is there a situation that seems impossible to you today? Have you given up on your dreams? Have you lost hope? Have people written you off? Take heart. You can dream again. Have faith because “with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).

Heavenly Father, thank You because even now You can transform my situation and my life in a way I have never imagined. I choose to keep my faith in You Lord.
