And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
Ephesians 5:11 (NKJV)
Picture walking through a pitch-black room filled with furniture. You inch forward but keep bumping your shins and stubbing your toes because you can’t see what is in front of you. Then someone flicks on the light. Instantly, the danger disappears. You can now move with confidence and even help others avoid getting hurt. Light changes everything.
Live in the Light of Class
Paul is urging us here to live as people who belong to the light of Christ. Darkness represents hidden sin. These are things we might excuse, tolerate, or keep secret, but which quietly damage our hearts and relationships. Just like darkness hides obstacles, sin grows strongest when it stays hidden.
Exposing darkness does not mean judging or embarrassing others. Instead, it implies choosing honesty, living with integrity, and gently speaking truth when it is needed. Simply living out Christ’s character by showing kindness, fairness, and courage can shine a light that challenges wrongdoing and offers a better way.
No Fellowship with Darkness
This is not always easy. Light can reveal things we would rather not see in our lives or in our surroundings. Nevertheless, Jesus, the Light of the world, gives us strength to face the truth and to bring hope into places of hurt and brokenness.
Today, invite God to reveal any compromises or habits that may have dimmed your light. Ask Him for the courage to step away from anything that dishonors Him and the compassion to guide others toward His truth. Your life can be the light that helps someone else find their way.
Prayer
Almighty God, open my eyes to anything that keeps me from walking fully in Your light. Give me courage to live truthfully and grace to lovingly shine Your light for others to see.
