What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?
Matthew 27:22 (NKJV)
God has given human beings a unique gift – freedom of choice. Instead of controlling us, He allows us to decide how our lives will be. We must realize, however, that our choices have consequences for today and eternity.
On the day when Jesus was crucified, the chief priests and the elders avoided taking an open position. Pilate was the judge.
When challenged to choose between releasing the criminal Barabbas and the innocent Jesus, Pilate, like the rulers of Israel, refused to take responsibility. He asked for advice from the agitated mob, which chose to save Barabbas.
Next, Pilate was left to make the most important decision of his life. He asked the crowd again, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ? (Matthew 27:22). The excited mob decided Jesus should be crucified.
Earlier during Christ’s ministry, all the people in a synagogue got angry with Him and attempted to throw Him down a cliff (Luke 4:28-29).
In Jesus’ most trying moment, Judas betrayed Him. Peter denied Him. The other disciples forsook Him. In general, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him” (John 1:11).
On the other hand, in Acts 1:15, 120 disciples were faithfully awaiting the promise of the Holy Spirit. Many priests believed (Acts 6:7). Paul, a zealous murderer of Christians, chose to follow Christ. Many Gentiles also became Christians.
Jesus was rejected and accepted in equal measure. Every day, you answer the same question as Pilate through the choices you make. Your thoughts, words and actions reveal your answer.
What will you do with Jesus today?
Lord Jesus, today, I choose you as my Lord and Saviour once again.
I choose to follow you all through Lord Jesus.
Order my steps.
This is a tough decision to make as you remind me today Mr Maina.
Thank you, Pastor. Our God is able to help us follow through on the decisions we make.
Awesome message to Christians today…thanks for the reflection to our daily lives
