Our Eyes Are Upon You

Daily Devotional – Sunday, February 11, 2024
… nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.
2 Chronicles 20:12 (NKJV)

How low on the ladder of helplessness can one sink? King Jehoshaphat is worried. A huge militia from Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir has gathered to attack Judah. The monarch appeals to God, citing the Lord’s powerful interventions on behalf of the Israelites in the past. He also claims the promises of God.

We Look Up to You

He ends his prayer with this powerful request: “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12).

Have you ever prayed to the point of lacking words? The enemy threatens to destroy you. You have tried all the strategies and failed. You don’t know what else to do. That is when, like Jehoshaphat, you must turn your eyes to God. The Lord has a tendency to intervene at the point where our strength ends. He becomes our defender and fights our enemies.

Our Eyes Are Upon You

That is what He did with Jehoshaphat and Judah. The Lord proclaimed, “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!” (2 Chronicles 20:17). They did not throw a spear or an arrow. God destroyed the enemy armies singlehandedly.

If you are dealing with seemingly insurmountable challenges, learn from Jehoshaphat and his people. Fix your eyes on God. Ask him to intervene. Claim his promises. Stay calm and let God do what He can only do.

Prayer
Dear God, my troubles are intimidating. I don’t know what to do, but my eyes are on You. Fight for me.
