Our Source of Sufficiency

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.
2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV)

When faced with challenges, human beings tend to rely on their own strength. We think that the best way out of trouble is to make better plans and work harder to become self-sufficient. While this is commendable, the Apostle Paul urges us to rely on the only source of self-sufficiency in the universe.

His Grace is Sufficient

Paul acknowledges that all his prosperity and fruitfulness are a product of relying fully on God. Additionally, rather than denying his frailties, he accepts them. The man of God is confident he will overcome his challenges because God’s might is working in him, not because of his own skills and abilities.

Instead of focusing on our shortcomings, we are encouraged to take comfort in knowing that God’s grace always suffices for us. Giving God our shortcomings opens the way for His power to reveal itself through our weakness.

Our Source of Sufficiency

Our sufficiency originates from God. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit’s work within us, not by our own merit. This is a liberating and humbling truth. It serves as a reminder that God intends that we live and serve in harmony with His will even as He provides for all of our needs.

Do you feel unworthy or inadequate in some areas of your life? How can you trust in God’s sufficiency and give Him control over those areas? Think about the times when God has provided for you. Allow God to be your source of sufficiency.

Heavenly Father, because You are my source of sufficiency, I will press on and win despite my shortcomings.
