Powerful Lessons from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, October 5, 2021

Then He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”

Exodus 3:6 (NIV)

At the scene of the burning bush, God introduced Himself to Moses as, “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”

This statement has two powerful lessons for us.

One, we serve a faithful God who keeps His promises. God never forsook or let down Abraham, Isaac or Jacob. The same God would be with Moses to fulfil the promises He had made to Abraham concerning the fate of the Israelites in Egypt (Genesis 15:13-14).

Two, when God said He was, “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob,” He was telling Moses that God works through weak fallible human beings who submit themselves to Him.

For example, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were all liars. The first two lied that their wives were their sisters. Jacob cheated Esau and took the latter’s birthright. Jacob also took advantage of his ageing father to get the firstborn’s blessing.

Despite Moses’ weaknesses, God would work with Him to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt. As long as Moses would trust in and obey God, God would help Moses, despite the flaws Moses had.

The faithful God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is your God, too. When you feel like giving up because of your weaknesses and failures, remember the three were as week as you yet God worked in and through them.

Submit your weaknesses under the immense power of God. Let the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob be your God.

Father, thank You for being my God despite my flaws.

When we learn that He is God who identifies himself with weak humanity we get a Sense of belonging to Him as our God too despite our weaknesses.
