Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NKJV)
At the core of Christianity is reconciliation. The apostle Paul tells us that God did not hold our sins against us when He made peace with the world through Christ. Our relationship with God is built on this great act of grace, which also influences how we relate to other people.
God Has Reconciled Us to Himself
Usually, when we think about reconciliation, we think of repairing ties between people on both sides of a conflict. Biblical reconciliation, on the other hand, goes farther, mending our strained connection with God and changing our hearts to express His forgiveness and love.
Think of how Christ’s sacrifice on the cross reconciles God’s holiness and our sinful nature Jesus purchased our redemption from sin by His death and resurrection, opening the door for us to have a repaired connection with our heavenly father. We are invited into a life of peace and relationship with God by this magnificent act of love.
Reconciled to Reconcile
In addition, and as a consequence of His gesture, God invites us to be agents of reconciliation in the world. We are reconciled to reconcile. This entails living in accordance with the gospel of peace, fostering peace in our communities, asking for pardon when we harm others, and forgiving those who wrong us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please give us the strength to extend forgiveness, the humility to ask for it, and the discernment to work towards reconciliation.
