Rejoice always
1 Thessalonians 5:16 (NIV)
Peter is a close friend whose attitude I admire a lot. He has been in and out of hospital several times in the last one year. He is on medication for a heart condition. That notwithstanding, Peter is joy personified. He wears a charming smile like a banner.
Recently, I asked Peter where his joy came from. “From God,” he answered “I have had a fair share of trouble. Nothing scares me anymore. I draw satisfaction from knowing that Jesus loves me and knows the reason for all my troubles.”
Numerus research studies support Peter’s claims. A healthier lifestyle, a longer life, a stronger immune system, and the ability to overcome stress and pain, all results from a joyful attitude.
Theopedia defines joy as, “a state of mind and an orientation of the heart. It is a settled state of contentment, confidence and hope.” In the Bible, joy is a ‘nutrient’ of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Unlike happiness, which is external, joy is internal, triggered by the indwelling Spirit of God.
In Thessalonians 5:16, we are commanded to “rejoice always.” Unless we have fully surrendered our lives to God and received inner peace, we cannot rejoice all the time. Only a mind anchored in Christ will rejoice always; even when trouble looms.
Today, choose to experience the joy that Peter enjoys; the type that God, through Paul, commands us to have. Godly joy does not depend on events around you. It is based on you receiving freely the gift of salvation. It is the product of experiencing God’s love. It is rooted in walking with God daily.
Rejoice today! Rejoice Always! You are God’s precious child!
Holy Spirit, fill me today, that I may rejoice always.
Amen! Amen! Amen!… Good for cheering up some weary soul.
Cheers, Jabura! Welcome and make an appointment with this site everyday. There is a scripture feast you can’t afford to miss.
Joy is for all the time but happiness is for a short duration.
Our joy should not fluctuate with our circumstances or feelings. When joyful and prayerful goes against our natural inclinations.
When we do God’s will, we will find it easier to be joyful and thankful. Joy makes us to be grateful.
Shalom
