Remember Lot’s wife.
Luke 17:32 (NKJV)
“Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.” (Genesis 13:12-13).
Lot lived to regret this decision. Gradually, the culture of Sodom corrupted his family. For example, Lot offered his daughters to be defiled by the men of the city to save his heavenly visitors from sodomy.
Remember Lot’s Wife
Secondly, when Lot and his daughters fled the burning city into a cave, the girls made their father drink alcohol then committed incest with him. Lot’s children had become comfortable with alcoholism and sexual perversions.
However, Lot’s wife was the epitome of Sodom’s evil impact on the family. For the love of the sinful pleasures of Sodom, she disobeyed God’s instructions and became a pillar of salt.
While warning of the perils of the last days, Jesus told His disciples, “Remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32). Like this covetous woman, many will lose eternal life because of loving worldly pleasures.
Lot’s Wife Rejected God’s Grace
Even the best efforts by God will not save those who reject the salvation He offers. Lot and his daughters were equally sinful but they believed and obeyed God, and He saved them. God saved them by grace through faith, as He does with us.
Lot’s wife died because she rejected God’s grace, not because God was not willing to save her. How shall we escape of if we neglect such great salvation?
