Also, Daniel petitioned the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
Daniel 2:49 (NKJV)
Where would you be without friends? People with whom you share no biological links but who stick with you in the thick and thin of life are worth your respect and gratitude. Consequently, whenever you are in a position of influence, remember your friends and those who helped you along the way.
Daniel and His Allies Pray
Take the example of Daniel. When King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream he would neither remember nor interpret, none of the wise men of Babylon could help him. The king ordered the killing of all the wise men of the land, who included Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Daniel approached Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, and pleaded for time to interpret the dream. He then requested that his three Hebrew companions pray with him for God to intervene in the prevailing circumstances. God heard the prayers of His servant. Soon, Daniel appeared before the king and saved his fellow wise men from death.
Daniel Petitions Nebuchadnezzar for His Friends
Nebuchadnezzar glorified and praised the God of Daniel. In addition, “…the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.” (Daniel 2:48). This was a befitting reward for Daniel by Babylonian standards.
Ordinarily, Daniel would have celebrated his promotion and honour. He would have thrown a party and invited his three friends. Not so with this wise and pious man! Instead, “…Daniel petitioned the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.” (Daniel 2:49).
He Did Not Forget His Friends
What an honourable man! Daniel remembered his friends. They had watched with him in prayer, and now that an opportunity was available, he asked the king to appoint Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to administrative positions in the kingdom. Daniel wanted his comrades to share in the victory God had granted him.
When God remembers you, do not forget the friends who stood by you along the way. Like Daniel, if you can plead for and recommend your friends for a job or promotion, do so without hesitation. If a door for personal development opens up and a friend is in need, push that door wider.
Remember Your Friends
Remember your friends. Never forget the countless times they prayed for and with you. Recount the tears they shed on your behalf. Recall the material sacrifices they made for you to be where you are today. Be the bridge or elevator that your allies will use to take their lives to the next level.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to remember my friends for the good they have done to me and to honour them when You bless me.
