Thus says the LORD: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it…”
Jeremiah 6:16 (NKJV)
Whenever I lose something, I reason backwards. When was the last time I had that object? Where was I sitting? Which jacket was I wearing?
If I can trace my last movements and activities, I can recall where I left the item. It has worked for me countless times.
It reminds me of God’s message to the Israelites. “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls (Jeremiah 6:16).
God wanted them to retrace their footsteps. They were to go back to the crossroads and identify the old paths of righteousness. Only by walking in obedience and practicing justice would they find lasting peace at individual and national levels.
There is danger that after years of being a Christian, I might forget the pit from which the Lord rescued me. My faith and prayer life will suffer. The Bible will become just another book.
I might give in to fear and succumb to worldliness. My faith will become a formality. I will no longer have genuine peace and happiness.
What I must do is to retrace my steps to the point where my journey with Jesus began.
Do you remember the time you first accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord? Do you think you need to retrace your footsteps? Would your faith be stronger with the zeal and vigour you had when you first believed?
Father, whenever I deviate, please remind me to return to the old paths of righteousness and obedience.
I need to trace back please Lord helpe
Thank you for visiting, reading and commenting, Kanyoza. I hope to see you on this page more. Be blessed.
Missing the mark has costed most of us Christians.
It is good to remain in the cause for Christ always to find us there.
This is a challenge to me Mr Maina, that I should not loose the mark.
Amen, Pastor. Be blessed.
Let the Lord guide us and help us to remember the old part of righteousness and go back to truck the right part.
Amen, Jane. Be blessed.
