You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalms 16:11 (NKJV)
A human being’s search for happiness lasts a lifetime. Virtually all our choices and pursuits revolve around happiness. Unfortunately, happiness is a product of what happens around us.
If hit all my targets, earn good money and have a healthy relationship or family, I will be happy. The opposite is true. Incidentally, in my low moments, if I encounter humour, I may laugh briefly then revert to default settings – sadness.
You Will Show Me the Path of Life
Thankfully, there is a more genuine form of happiness. Its source is not human. It springs from the presence of God in the human heart. Its name is joy.
The Psalmist had this to say about joy: “You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalms 16:11). This verse leaves no doubt as to the source of joy.
We experience joy when we walk in God-ordained paths of righteousness. Joy is our portion when we dwell in God’s presence. Long-lasting, never-ending joy is a fruit of hiding under the Right Hand of God.
Reveling in the Abundant Joy of God’s Presence
Joy lifts our spirits and motivates us to do good even when circumstances around us are unfavourable. We can revel in the abundant joy of God’s presence any day, any time, under any situation.
The good news is that God is ready to give us joy when we ask for it. We only need to allow the Holy Spirit into our heart and He will produce His fruit, part of which is joy (Galatians 5:22-23).
Will you allow God to fill your heart with joy instead of relying on momentary human-made happiness?
Prayer
Dear Jesus, fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I receive produce joy.
