I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins.
Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.
Isaiah 44:22 (NKJV)
The school day was over. The distance from school to home was about two kilometres. Normally, this would be the best time of the day for tired young boys and girls. There would be lots of play and jokes until each child would branch away to his or her home.
However, this day was different. A thick, menacing nimbus cloud made the late afternoon look like dawn. Heavy rain would pound the earth with fury in a matter of minutes. For a moment, we all stood still.
I was in a dilemma. If I ran home, the rain was likely to catch up with me, which could translate into a serious bout of flu. On the flipside, if I waited for the rain to fall and subside, I would probably leave school at night.
As I pondered my next move, several boys dashed out, determined to arrive home before the first drops of the rain. The rest of us waited for the downpour. We would rather be late and dry than early and wet. Then came strong winds that threated to lift us up into the air. We had to cover our faces to ward off dust. Thankfully, by the time we opened our eyes, the cloud was no more. The sun was shining again. We walked home happily, our nightmare finally over.
I have blotted out your transgressions
God promises to deal with our sins the way He dealt with the frightening cloud on behalf of us fearful schoolchildren. He says, “I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 44:22).
Even before God invites us to return to Him, he has deleted our sins. If we remain in spiritual darkness, it is because we have refused to come back home. Many remain unforgiven, not because God is not willing to pardon them, but because they do not want to acknowledge their sins and ask for forgiveness.
Like the father of the prodigal son, God is waiting for us to return home, not to quarrel and punish us, but to celebrate our return. He longs for the day we will run back to His loving arms. How far from home are you?
Heavenly Father, thank You for blotting out my sins like a thick cloud. I am returning to You now, my Redeemer.
How comforting is it to know that God has blotted your sins away? Leave a comment to encourage others, please.
Thank you for your forgiveness, God.
Amen. God bless you for your comment.
I love the way your making this sensible to many to turn to Christ
Amen, Duncan. That’s the way it should be. The Word of God is not just abstract concepts. It has practical applications.
In Jesus’s name Amen
Thank you for your comment, Joseph. God bless you.
The part which saya Many remain unforgiven, not because God is not willing to pardon them, but because they do not want to acknowledge their sins and ask for forgiveness is really a sad one, having forgiveness but not accepting it.
True, Brian.
