Set Apart for God

Daily Devotional—Friday, May 9, 2025
But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly. The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Psalms 4:3 (NKJV)

Life can sometimes be filled with distractions, disappointments, and moments when it seems like no one truly sees you or listens. Our key text, however, offers a calming reminder in the middle of all that noise: God sees you, and He hears you.

God Sees and Hears

David says he is not talking about people who have it all together. He is referring to people like us who trust Him, even when we struggle. To be set apart means God has handpicked you. You are not lost in the crowd. You matter to Him.

God listens. He is not distant. He is not too busy. When you whisper a prayer and cry out in frustration, joy, or grief, He hears you.

Set Apart for God

David wrote this passage when he was facing opposition and betrayal. Still, he was confident that God had chosen him and was hearing him. That is the same confidence you can walk in today.
So the next time you feel alone or like your prayers are hitting the ceiling, remember you are chosen and set apart for God.

What does it mean to you that God has “set you apart”? Have there been times you felt like no one was listening but now realize God was? How can knowing you are set apart for God and heard change the way you pray today?

Prayer
Almighty God, thank You for setting me apart and for listening when I pray. Help me live with the peace and confidence that you know me profoundly and you never ignore me.
