Stand On Your Watch

I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected.

Prophet Habakkuk yearned to comprehend God’s purpose while the Jews were in pain. Habakkuk’s decision to stand on his watch and await God’s response demonstrates a patient, hopeful, and faith-filled mindset.

Be Alert

A watchman was positioned on a city’s walls in ancient times to keep an eye out for dangers and wait for any indications of impending danger. Similarly, God requires us to keep an eye on ourselves while listening to His voice amidst our difficulties.

In our hectic and cacophonous world, we too frequently hurry through prayer without paying attention. To stand on your watch entails setting aside specific time and place to intentionally seek God’s direction so that He might communicate with us intelligibly.

Waiting in the dark with confidence that God would provide the answer in His own time is habitually the essence of faith. Knowing that God’s answer will arrive in His time, we must wait, just as the watchman waits for the first indication of dawn.

Stand On Your Watch

God’s answer might occasionally appear in unexpected ways, and we need to be in the appropriate place—spiritually, mentally, and emotionally—to receive it with gratitude. By concentrating on God, we set ourselves up to listen to Him despite all of life’s distractions.
