He restores my soul.
Psalms 23:3 (NKJV)
In one of the most iconic psalms, David brought up the critical issue of spiritual nourishment. Here are the first three verses: “The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (Psalms 23:1–3).
He Restores My Soul
Notice that the sheep has more needs than physical nourishment. The Lord will ensure David gets not only food and safety but also restoration. In a world full of ceaseless activities, hustles, challenges, and cares, spiritual regeneration is paramount. It is ironic how we spend a lot of time nourishing the body while neglecting the mind and the soul.
At the end of a tough day or month at work, what we need most is to align ourselves with God. As we commune with God in prayer, we lay our burdens at His feet and receive the peace that only He can give. At the feet of Jesus, we learn to let go and let God. He who created us and knows everything about us will give us physical, emotional, and spiritual rest if we will allow Him to.
Benefits of Spiritual Regeneration
When we make spiritual regeneration a priority, we become more productive in everything we undertake. The tasks that would normally overwhelm us become easy to perform because we are linked to the source of life. Every day becomes a joy to live because we know we will make a difference. We get new ideas and become agents of change in our communities.
How much have you invested in your spiritual nourishment? If you analyze your life critically, do you think you have the ability to overcome the pressures of life? How much more effective would you be in dealing with stress if you allowed God to restore your souls regularly? What will you do today to ensure God restores your soul?
