The Best Motivation for Service

Daily Devotional: Friday, March 14, 2025
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.
Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)

Routine duties can easily take over our everyday lives, whether they be at the workplace, in the ministry, or at home. We could feel exhausted from our efforts, unappreciated, or unrecognized. Our primary reading, however, serves as a potent reminder of a fundamental truth: serving God, not pleasing others, is our ultimate aim.

Do It Heartily

This verse exhorts us to give everything we do our all, understanding that our labor, no matter how minor or unremarkable, is a gift to the Lord. Every work, whether it be serving in the church, running a meeting, cleaning the dishes, or preparing for an exam, can be transformed into a sacred duty when carried out with a heart that is committed to God.

Our viewpoint changes when we put serving God before pursuing human acceptance. Purpose takes the place of frustration. Dejection gives way to happiness. When we serve the God that observes everything and rewards loyalty, it gives our labor purpose.

The Best Motivation for Service

Doing everything for God and not for people is the best motivation for service. Examine your heart for a moment today. Are you working in the Lord’s honor? Ask God to give you renewed strength and delight in serving Him if fatigue or resentment has begun to creep in. Never forget that when you work for His glory, your efforts are never in vain.

Prayer
Father in heaven, may the desire to please You be my motivation for service. Grant me the ability to strive tirelessly for You. Make my everyday chores enjoyable and impress on me that all my actions may be a form of worship.
