Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
A young woman once shared how a colleague constantly tried to provoke her at work. Instead of reacting harshly, she chose to remain calm and kind, even when it was difficult. Months later, that same colleague apologized and admitted that her gentleness had taught him more about character than any sermon ever could. That is the quiet power of meekness. It is a strength that wins without shouting.
Greatness in Gentleness
In a world that celebrates boldness, self-promotion, and power, meekness seems out of place. Yet Jesus called it a blessing, promising that those who are meek will inherit the earth. Meekness is not weakness. It is power under control. It is choosing to stay calm when anger feels justified, to forgive when pride demands revenge, and to trust God even when life feels unfair.
Jesus embodied meekness perfectly. Though He had all authority, He chose to serve rather than be served. He healed the hurting, forgave His enemies, and submitted fully to His Father’s will, even to the point of dying on the cross. His humility showed the world that surrender to God is not defeat but victory.
The Calm that Conquers
Practising meekness changes how we relate to others. It means speaking gently in conflict, showing patience when wronged, or letting go of the need to prove a point. Meekness does not make us lesser. Humility reflects the heart of Christ.
When we surrender to God’s will, He gives us strength that no circumstance can shake. The meek inherit peace, favor, and influence that pride could never secure. True greatness is found in gentleness.
Prayer
Lord, teach me the beauty of meekness. Help me show kindness, patience, and humility, trusting Your strength to guide my responses every day.
