Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.”
2 Samuel 24:24 (NKJV)
Imagine this: You get extra money at a store. No one pays attention. You could take it with you and leave, and everything would stay simple. Deep down, though, you know it doesn’t belong to you. If you return it back, you might feel weird and have to take a few steps back. It wouldn’t cost anything to keep it. Doing the right thing will cost you something small but real.
The Price of Doing What Is Right
David won’t offer God something that doesn’t cost him anything in 2 Samuel 24. He won’t settle for anything less than the full price. It wasn’t about material things. It was about the love behind what he was giving. He knew that worship without sacrifice might seem right, but it misses the essence of giving.
Obedience could cost you comfort, time, or even a small advantage. Such decisions may not seem like a big deal, but they show what kind of person you are on the inside. These choices show if you are willing to do the right thing even when no one else is watching.
The Cost of Doing Right
It is convenient to pick what’s best for you right now, but obedience isn’t about what’s easiest. It’s about doing what’s right. God sees the small choices that other people might not notice. He cares about a heart that is willing to be honest and kind
When you find yourself in a situation like David’s, do what you know is right. Being obedient, even in small ways, is important. Things you give up are never wasted. God uses it to change who you are and make you trust Him more, one choice at a time.
Prayer
Almighty God, please help me make the right choice, even if it costs me something.
