In those days, there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Judges 17:6 (NKJV)
Imagine a home where no one is in charge. Parents decide whether to buy food and pay bills. Children choose whom and what to obey.
In a community without administrators, people throw waste anywhere they want. Raw sewage flows freely. The stench is unbearable.
In a country where are no police or prison services, any business is legal. Corruption, oppression and impunity thrive.
There is a comparable story in the book of Judges. God’s people rebel against Him. The pagan neighboring nation attack and oppress the Israelites. The former cry to God. He raises up a judge to deliver them. Soon after, they rebel against God and the cycle repeats itself!
Apart from sin-inspired rebellion, the other reason for this cycle is in two replica verses (Judges 17:6 and 21:25). “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
Without laws and leaders, there will be chaos in the nation and in the church. God commands, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For … the authorities that exist are appointed by God. … whoever resists the authority resists … God…” (Romans 13:1-2).
We also read, “Let all things be done decently and in order” because, “God is not the author of confusion but of peace…” (1 Corinthians 14:40 & 33).
Reflect on your relationship with both secular and church laws and leaders. Do you appreciate and respect order and authority? Would you rather live in a chaotic society?
Father, help me value and obey laws and leaders you have placed over me.
Almighty God,May you teach me to be a follower of your word, which gives me an order and inturn molds me to be Obedient to our leaders🙏
Amen, Ronny. God bless you.
Our God values order. He hates lawlessness and disorder. How well do we fit into His design in this regard? Please let me know your comments after reading this devotional. Be blessed.
If a church without a Pastor is confused how about other areas without leaders?
Help our nation Kenya to obey leaders as you give us the right leaders oh Lord.
Thank your for expanding the analogy, Pastor. Your words are true and powerful. God bless you.
woow thanks elder for the devotion.
Amen and welcome, Brian
