The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
Proverbs 11:25 (NKJV)
A preacher was invited to a small village church. After the sermon, church leaders thanked him for the presentation. As was the custom, the church treasurer emptied the offering bag to give the preacher his fare.
How much money came out? Well, only the visitor had given an offering that day. His offering was his fare reimbursement. What if he had not offered?
Proverbs 11:25 says, “The generous soul will be made rich…” Now, this goes against the thinking of many people. Humanly-speaking, when we give, we lose. From a Biblical perspective, though, giving makes us richer.
Solomon says that if you want wealth, you should start giving. He observes in the same verse, “And he who waters will also be watered himself.” Quench other people’s thirst and yours will be quenched when you will be thirsty.
In Luke 6:38, Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you…” Giving is like an echo. You get back what you give. Generosity is like a smile; even a stranger will smile back at you.
A starving family may rejoice from your food donation today. You could be the angel to take a child back to school by paying their school fees. A little assistance from you could help clear a hospital bill for a desperate person.
A bereaved or stressed person needs a shoulder to lean on. Another wants your prayers. A troubled youth needs an understanding person to talk to. Will you be that person? One day, the good you do today will come back to you when you need it most.
Lord Jesus, make me the instrument of your blessings in other people’s lives.
When we give, God supplies us with more so that we can give more. Giving helps us gain a right perspective on our possessions. It is good to realize we never had nothing to begin with, it is God given to help others.
What then do we gain by good giving? Freedom from enslavement to our possessions, the joy of helping others, and God’s approval.
Hallelujah, Pastor. may God continue to use you to spread the Gospel. Your insights are top-notch!
