The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Psalms 138:8 (NKJV)
I am a perfectionist. All my tasks, activities and projects must be faultless. I spend a lot of time improving the final product. If I come across a flaw in an item I have finished working on, I feel sad.
That said, the search for perfectionism is frustrating. Better still, perfectionism is a mirage for a human being. You can only do your best and leave the rest to God.
The Lord Who Makes Perfect
According to David the psalmist, only one Being can make perfect. David asserts, “The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” (Psalms 138:8, NKJV).
We all have good intentions, plans and projects but only God can make them perfect. The Berean Study Bible renders this verse, “The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me. O LORD, Your loving devotion endures forever—do not abandon the works of Your hands.”
Notice that God has noble intentions for your life. He gradually perfects His plan for you. You are work in progress. You are not perfect but God is completing His work within you gradually. Unlike human beings, God is the real perfectionist.
God Will Not Forsake the Works of His Hands
God is merciful, faithful and loving. That is why He “… works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13, NKJV). For the same reason, the Lord will not, “forsake the works of His hands.”
When we understand that we are God’s workmanship and that He is gradually fulfilling His purpose in and for us, we can say with Paul, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6, New Living Translation).
Dear Lord, I surrender my life to You that You may continue working on my weaknesses until I become perfect.
Amen.
We thank that He is has a purpose for us and and He will fulfill it.
Amen. Indeed, God finishes the projects he starts.
