The Most Effective Witnessing Method

Daily Devotional – Sunday, January 30, 2022

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8 (NIV)

As I waited for my friend who was running late, I located a bench outside a not-so-busy shop but on a busy street. After ordering a soft drink, I sat on the form and allowed eyes and ears to wander.

A few meters away, a street preacher was shouting at his hearers to repent. Two or three people gathered to listen. However, traders and buyers were speaking at the top of their voices because of the deafening noise from the loud speakers. I doubted whether the preacher was making an impact.

Stickers and Slogans

An even louder noise interrupted my thoughts. An open truck packed with mega-speakers was passing by. The announcer shouted about an upcoming ‘miracle’ crusade to be presided over by a ‘mighty prophet of God’.  I could see people shielding their ears from the earsplitting noise.

No sooner had the truck passed than a van stopped right in front of me. Its body was plastered with promotional stickers. “PUSH – Pray Until Something Happens,” read one sticker. “Jesus: the only escape route from hell,” another one stated.

The Most Effective Witnessing Method

I could not finish reading all the stickers before the driver pulled away. I had a feeling of déjà vu. These approaches to evangelism were common in my society. Almost all the churches used them. Were they effective in winning souls? I wondered.

At that moment, I remembered a verse that presented a different and most effective approach to witnessing. “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8).

Practical Christian Living: The Most Effective Witnessing Method

Would our evangelism be more effective if we treated our family members, workmates, schoolmates, neighbors, strangers and the needy with love, mercy and humility? If people knew us for acts of generosity and godly conduct, would we need slogans and stickers?

If we honored our promises, spoke the truth at all times, promoted peace and coexistence, and treated others with respect, would we need huge budgets for evangelistic campaigns? If we lived like Christ, would we not win more souls for Him?

Practical Christian living is the most effective witnessing method.

Lord Jesus, teach me how to model Your life in my home and neighborhood that I may win souls for You.

Sure, we should live what we proclaim from our lips.
