For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
Isaiah 41:13 (NKJV)
When Baraka received his letter of appointment after a job interview, he was overjoyed. After two years of searching for a job and feeling like a liability to his parents and older siblings, this was the best news he could receive.
His celebrations, however, were short-lived. He dreaded working in the city. Baraka was a rural boy. The city was a confusing maze to him. The traffic alone was enough to give him a chronic headache. He was also aware of the daily cases of theft, mugging and murder.
Someone to Hold My Hand
As he contemplated declining the job offer, Baraka shared his fears with his uncle. He lived to cherish this decision because it opened the city gates to him. Baraka’s uncle introduced him to a distant relative who worked in the city.
Alan (the relative in the city) was at the bus station to receive Baraka when the latter arrived. From there, and for the next few weeks, Alan held Baraka’s hand, sometimes literally, and introduced him to the city.
The Lord Will Hold Your Right Hand
God’s promise to His people through Prophet Isaiah has similarities with what Alan did to Baraka. The Almighty assures us, “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” (Isaiah 41:13).
Life is full of uncertainties. Every day has a fair share of troubles. Sometimes when I contemplate the challenges before me, I feel like Baraka before he left for the city. I need an Alan to hold my hand and help me navigate the difficulties of life.
The Most Powerful Antidote for Fear
Thankfully, the One who has offered to hold my hand and lead me through the uncertainties of this life is the Almighty God Himself. When He says, “Fear not, I will help you.” it is because He knows the path I will tread is not smooth.
Today, cast your fears and anxieties on the One who promises He “will hold your right hand.” With your hand in His, no challenge is too difficult. Why should you be worried when God is holding your hand?
Holding on to God’s hand and trusting Him fully is the most powerful antidote for fear.
Almighty Father, without you, the cares and troubles of the world will overwhelm me. Please hold my hand and lead me to my destiny.
When everyday we wake up in a scary chaotic world, this promise of God can give us courage to move one..
That is why we face the day with confidence – we know He is holding our hands. Amen, Doc.
