The Panacea for Procrastination

Daily Devotional – Friday, June 27, 2025
Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
Hebrews 4:7 (NKJV)

Have you ever found yourself delaying taking action yet you know you have to? The task is clear. You planned it with great attention to detail. You know the rewards and consequences of not acting, yet you tarry, waiting for the ‘right’ moment.

That is the malaise called procrastination. It starts as a habit and develops into a character trait of not being arrested. It is responsible for many incomplete projects and dead dreams. Often, our lack of progress in life is a result of deferment.

Act Now

Now, according to the author of Hebrews, procrastination is also a spiritual malady, and a deadly one at that. You see, God is always calling sinners to repentance. He desires that no one should get lost, but that all should receive eternal life.

Procrastination sets in when we delay the decision to give our lives to Jesus or to act on His voice. The consequences are dire. We risk eternal death in the long run. Moreover, for the current existence, we lose the opportunity to walk with Jesus and the joy and fulfillment that walk entails.

The Panacea for Procrastination

In essence, the time to act is now, whether in our day-to-day lives or in the spiritual realm. There will never be ‘the right time.’ We must act now on the opportunities that we have. The only day we are sure of is today. Tomorrow belongs to God.

Do you have projects, activities, and plans you keep deferring? Is God prodding you to take some action for His name’s sake, yet you are delaying? “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” The most effective panacea to procrastination is action.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, do not stop prodding me until I act on the visions and plans You have put in my heart.
