The Prayer that God Answers

Daily Devotional – Sunday, April 7, 2024
So God granted him what he requested.
1 Chronicles 4:10 (NKJV)

Not all prayers meet with God’s approval. That is why we need to reflect on the prayer of Jabez because, as the writer states, “So God granted him what he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4:10). Is that not the kind of response you want after you pray?

The Winning Attitude in Prayer

To refresh our minds, read the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:9–10. It has several elements we can replicate in our prayers. First, Jabez approached God as he was. We must not wait until the ‘right’ time or when we are good enough to come before God.

Second, Jabez had great faith in God. With boldness, he approached the throne of mercy and grace. We, too, must understand that we cannot please God without faith. We must believe that He is loving, faithful, and willing to give us the best life according to His will.

The Prayer that God Answers

Third, Jabez did not limit God. The Creator of the universe owns everything and is happy when His children make the highest demand of Him so that they might glorify Him in their lives.

Fourth, the prayer that God answers admits that we are nothing without Him. Without God’s hand protecting him, Jabez was nothing. In fact, he was exposed to attacks by the devil and his agents. God delights in fighting on behalf of the person who surrenders to Him.

The Lord shows no partiality and answers all those who approach Him with an attitude of faith and boldness.

Prayer
Almighty God, teach me how to come before you with the right attitude so that you may answer my prayers.
